Easter Weekend Arrests

Type:  Announcements

We hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe holiday weekend. Canton Police officers were kept very busy over the weekend and unfortunately more than a few people spent some time behind bars. Among the offenders were these two individuals whose alleged actions upon our roadways put everyone’s safety in jeopardy.

Early Saturday morning, around 2:00AM, a Canton Police officer who was monitoring traffic on Route 138 observed a vehicle approaching him at what he estimated to be over 100MPH heading toward Milton. The officer activated his blue emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle which continued operating erratically until it came to an abrupt stop on Canton Avenue in Milton.

Additional Canton and Milton officers arrived on scene as backup as well a Massachusetts State Trooper who informed the Canton Officers that he had just clocked the same vehicle on Route 95 at 116MPH. The trooper had also attempted to stop the vehicle before it exited in Canton and he lost sight of it.

John Charron, 29, of Somerset was arrested at the scene for charges including, OUI Liquor, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding and Failure to Stop for Police.

Late Saturday evening, around 11:15PM, a Canton Police officer on patrol in the Route 138 area observed a van stopped in the southbound travel lane on Route 138 at Route 93. As the officer approached the vehicle he observed the operator to be unconscious and slumped over the wheel with the van in drive. The officer was able to awaken the man and get the vehicle into park.

After an investigation, officers arrested Scott Freeman, 41, of Brockton on charges including OUI Drugs and Possession of Class A and Class B Substances. (Heroin and prescription medication.)

We owe a great deal of thanks to the officers involved for removing dangerous drivers from our streets this holiday weekend. A special thanks to the Massachusetts State Police and the Milton Police Department for their assistance in both instances.
