Canton Police Department

At approximately 4:54PM this afternoon Canton Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to 146 Will Drive for a report of a person who fell through a skylight on the roof of the building. Two persons were on the roof assessing snow removal operations. The two individuals went separate directions when one person walked across a skylight that had been covered by the snow. The skylight gave way and an individual fell approximately forty feet to the ground. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton where he was later pronounced dead.

Additionally, on Wednesday February 18 at 10:00AM police and fire were summoned to 28 Draper Lane, Draper Brothers Company, for a worker who fell from the roof while clearing snow.  A male, approximately thirty five years of age, was transported by Medflight helicopter to a Boston area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Yesterday afternoon, police and fire also responded to a residential address on Tucker road where a female homeowner fell from the roof white attempting to clear snow. She was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in these tragic accidents.  As we have been communicating this week, we urge people to use extreme caution while attempting to clear snow and ice from their roofs. We recommend homeowners contact professionals to assist with snow removal and whenever possible to work in teams of at least two people. These tragic and deadly incidents highlight unprecedented concerns and hidden dangers that have come with the brutal weather conditions we have been experiencing.
